Contractual Corona warriors to be unemployed as second wave recede

Aurangabad, June 6:

Around 750 contractual Corona warriors stood by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) during the severity of the Corona pandemic when no one was ready to provide health services. They worked day and night strenuously due to which the city is getting relieved from the pandemic. However, the AMC health department has now started preparation to bid adieu to these warriors. Importantly, the honorarium of these contractual warriors is paid from the grants received from the government.

The contractual workers assisted AMC in running the Covid Care Centres, vaccination drive, Corona testing, Data Entry and other works. During the first wave last year, there was a panic among the people. The permanent employees of the health department were reluctant to work for the Covid care and took the official work only. They did not serve even a single patient but were felicitated as the Covid Warriors. More than 80,000 people in the city are infected so far and the Contractual workers. Now, the AMC has prepared to bid adieu to these employees while in the first phase a list of 27 such employees has been prepared.

AMC has 19 Covid Care Centres for which, 750 employees were taken on the contractual basis. Presently, only three CCC are operated while 16 centres have been closed. There are 460 active patients in the city while 143 are in home quarantined. The number of patients has reduced rapidly for the past three months. There are no patients in the CCC and hence several have been closed now. The serious patients are being treated at the Meltron Hospital, MIT and MGM.

A contractual doctor Yogesh Jain said, the contractual served the Corona patients without caring about their lives. They worked for more than 16 hours daily with the Corona positive patients selflessly where there is no complaint against them. The administration should consider about the services, he said.
