Corona crisis new challenge for health machinery again

Aurangabad, March 6:

The health machinery in the district is facing a new challenge due to the increased Corona crisis as it has to deal with the Corona patients along with the non-Covid patients. The administration is planning to increase the beds for the Corona patients.

On September 23, there were record 6190 active Corona patients in the district. Till last Friday, the total active patients in the district are 2910. However, the non-Covid patients were not being treated then, but now the non-Covid patients are also admitted in the government and private hospitals. Hence, a dearth of beds is faced in the hospitals. The patients in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) are increasing rapidly. The local authorities are planning to increase the beds in the government as well as the private hospitals.

Health deputy director, Dr Swapnil Lale said, the arrangement has been made for the additional beds considering the increasing number of patients. Even if the lockdown is implemented, the vaccination, testing and treatment will continue as usual, he said.

District civil surgeon, Dr Sundar Kulkarni, said, there are 300 beds at the civil hospital and the total patients were 138 till Saturday. Ample ventilator facilities are available here.

GMCH dean, Dr Kanan Yelikar, the super specialty block is full with patients. Now, the patients will be admitted in the medicine, surgical and CVTS departments.
