Dilapidated roads in the cantonment area a nightmare for residents

Aurangabad, Jan 1:

Travelling on dilapidated roads in the limits of Aurangabad Cantonment Board (ACB) has become a nightmare for the motorists. The apathy of cantonment officials has only made matters worse. The broken and bumpy roads not repaired for many months have developed large potholes, becoming a constant hazard.

Even the main roads in the cantonment are in a sorry state. Potholes from Little Flower High School to Officers mess had led to a number of accidents. Shopkeepers in the area said that the pits not only pose danger for motorists but also for pedestrians. Fewer customers are coming to shops mainly because of this dilapidated roads. Despite numerous requests, the authorities were taking no steps to improve the condition of roads. They added that when people pay taxes, they expect authorities to provide better civic facilities. Likewise, the residents and social activist said that their vehicles are being damaged due to the bad condition of roads. They have appealed to the officials to improve the condition of roads by laying new ones, particularly the main roads.

Roads are unfit to drive

Social activist Malik Nasir said that many roads in the cantonment area have become unfit for travel. The ACB is not undertaking road repairs despite the worst condition. Nearly all road stretches are full of ditches giving motorists nightmarish drive. The road leading from Nehru Chowk to Milind college is in a sorry state. He pointed out that their innumerable representations to ACB officials to repair the road had no effect.
