Dr Vilas Sapkal appointed new VC of MGM University

Aurangabad, April 19:

Dr Vilas Sapkal was appointed new vice-chancellor of MGM University. He took charge from his outgoing counterpart Dr Sudhir Gavhane on Monday.

Chancellor of MGM University Ankushrao Kadam, a scholar of Gandhian Thoughts and emeritus professor of MGM Prof Mark Lindley, industrialist Ranjit Kakkad, registrar Dr Ashish Gadekar, controller of examination Col Dr Pradeep Kumar and all deans were present.

The State Government accorded self-financing university status to MGM University in 2019. The appointment was necessitated as the tenure of Dr Gavhane as the first VC came to an end.

After taking charge, Dr Sapkal said that the opportunity given to him is very precious but is more challenging.

He said that a single person could not run a university which requires the creation of competent machinery. Outgoing VC Dr Gavhane said that 48 new courses were introduced in the university during the last two years.

“MGM Centre for Multidisciplinary under the leadership of international level scientist Nanasaheb Thorat was launched. Centre for Entrepreneurship to sow seeds of entrepreneurship among students and Centre for Psychological Counselling, were also started,” he said. Dean Dr Rekha Shelke made an introductory speech while Dr Asha Deshpande conducted the proceedings.

Dr Sapkal completed M Tech and Ph D from IIT-Bombay in Chemical Engineering. He has 32 years of teaching experience. He was VC of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University between 2010 to 2014 and worked as VC of Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (Tamtek) and Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University.

He has contributed a lot in the field of research and worked on research projects of UGC and other top bodies of higher and technical education.
