Eight accused arrested for theft in Shendra

Karmad police arrested a gang of eight members involved in stealing copper cable worth lakhs of rupees from Shendra MIDC. Items worth 1.50 lakh have been seized from their possession.

According to police, on Saturday, they had received a tip-off about a rickshaw carrying copper wire. They set a trap near Karmad. The rickshaw (MH20-EK-0208) was caught carrying ten pieces of copper cable. The rickshaw driver Pramod Bhaulal Sable and Prakash Raju Dongre (both Ashoknagar, Masanatpur) were arrested. But taking advantage of the darkness, the other accused fled.

After receiving information that two of the accused were in Gevrai, Beed, the Karmad police set a trap at Gevrai for two days. They arrested Sachin Ashok Rokade (Shahanagar) and Arun Ramesh Ahire (Phulenagar) on October 5. On the same day, accused Kiran Ashok Rokade (Shahanagar), Santosh Yashwant Ambildhage (Shekta), Abdul Salim Abdul Rauf (Bharatnagar, Chikalthana), Manohar Dagadu Vir (Chikalthana) were also arrested. "The gang is involved in large scale theft of copper cable. The police have seized items worth Rs 1.50 lakh. A few more robberies are likely to be uncovered," said PI Santosh Khetmalas. PSI Sushant Sutale, Raju Nanglot, Ganesh Jagde, Sandeep Jadhav, Tarchand Ghade, Sunil Gore, cyber PI Yogesh Tarmale participated in the drive.

Ramesh Kalamprasad Shukla (Aurangabad) had lodged a complaint at Karmad police station on March 12 alleging that he had fitted a copper underground cable in his Universion Cable Limited Company at Shendra MIDC on July 31, 2019. Later, while inspecting, underground copper cable worth Rs 3,30,000 was found to be stolen.
