Aurangabad, April 2:

Two persons (an elderly couple) were crushed to death, after a speeding truck coming from opposite direction hit their motorcycle, near Karodi Phata today at 10.30 am. The couple had left home to distribute invitation cards of their son's marriage scheduled to be held after 5 days. The accident was so severe that the truck passed through their bodies and police had to struggle a lot in shifting them to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Poonamsingh Chanwal (51) and Meena Sanjay Chanwal (46, both residents of Parsoda in Vaijapur tehsil).

According to details, the elderly couple's son Ganesh's marriage was to be solemnised with the bride of Shamwadi in Aurangabad tehsil on April 7. Meena's parents and other relatives stay in Rajewadi (in Badnapur tehsil). Hence, after completing the rituals, the couple left home and was proceeding towards Rajewadi on a motorcycle via Aurangabad. The Samruddhi Mahamarg's work and construction of flyover are underway on Dhulia-Solapur National Highway. While they were passing beneath the underpass, near Karodi Phata, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle (bearing number MH 20 DX 3179). The couple got pulled under the front wheel of the truck. The heavy motor vehicle also drove their bodies to the distance of some feet away. As a result, their bodies got broken into pieces and both of them died on the spot. It was very difficult for the police to identify the bodies of Meena and Sanjay.

Meanwhile, the truck driver and the cleaner, both fled away from the spot. The local villagers informed the Daulatabad police about the accident. The police inspector Rajashree Aade and her team of police officers and personnel visited the spot for inspection.

The accident was hair raising. The body parts got mixed with each other. The police had a tough time collecting the bodies and sent them to GMCH.

It is learnt that the couple had left home saying their daughter Radha and the to-be bridegroom Ganesh that they will be halting tonight at Rajewadi and would return home by tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the Chanwal family and in Parsoda village over the sudden demise. The couple leaves behind, one married son Anil, one married daughter Radha and one unmarried son Ganesh.
