Fate of 57 civic workers hangs in balance due to absence of word ''sanitary'' in appointment letters

Aurangabad, Oct 14:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration has refused to grant service to the wards of 57 sanitary workers on compassionate grounds as per the Laad Page Committee recommendations. The civic administrations remarked that the appointment letters of these retired workers do not have a mention as a sanitary worker. There is a mention of just a male worker or a female worker.

The AMC recruited sanitary workers on a large scale in 1982. The appointment letter which was given to each employee at that time mentioned them as either a male worker or a female worker. As per the Laad Page Committee recommendations, if the sanitary worker adopts any youth and recommends his name for job after his retirement on compassionate grounds, then the AMC had to accept it and give him the job accordingly.

However, it has come to notice that the AMC administration suddenly refuses to give the job to one family member of one sanitary worker. It reasoned that the original appointment letter of the worker does not mention the appointment as the sanitary worker (Safai Majoor). It has come to notice that 57 such cases are pending in AMC. Bahujan Kamgar Shakti Mahasangh (BKSM) has urged the civic administration to do justice and issue appointment letters after seeking ward officers'' reports. They also demanded the AMC mention sanitary workers in the new appointment letters, stated BKSM''s Sanjay Ragade, Ashok Hiwrale, Kailas Jadhav and others.

The union also appealed to the 190 workers, who had been confirmed in AMC recently, should remain alert as some leaders are demanding money.
