HC orders issuing notice to respondent in death of college girl by PSI''s private car

The Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court comprising Justice T V Nalawade and Justice M G Sewlikar has ordered to serving of notice to respondents in connection with the accidental death of a college student Akhefa Mehrin due to the dash of City Chowk police station''s PSI Santosh Pate''s private car. The next hearing will be after four weeks.

It may be noted that the father of the deceased girl, Muhammed Zaheer (resident of Aref Colony, a native of Kalamnuri in Hingoli) filed the criminal petition in the bench through Adv Saeed S Shaikh.

The lawyer brought into the notice of the bench that the 11th science student Akhefa Mehrin was going towards Bhadkal Gate from Aref Colony on her moped on April 22, 2019, at 2 pm. While she took a turn and just reached on the Town Hall flyover, a speeding private car of PSI Santosh Pate which was coming towards the main road adjacent to Jama Masjid road hit the moped of Akhefa from behind. The impact was so severe that the girl got injured and fell in front of the car. Many people spotted the accident; therefore, they moved to extend. On seeing the people coming in the direction of the accident spot, Pate''s car sped away from the spot by crushing her head and the body brutally. She sustained severe brain damage. The girl was then rushed for treatment, but died while undergoing treatment on April 24, 2019, early morning.

Earlier, the City Chowk police station registered a complaint against the unidentified accused. Later on, the investigation revealed the involvement of PSI Pate in the accident. Hence the police seized his car. However, the bereaved father was going restless as the police were not conducting the necessary inquiry. Therefore the petitioner Zaheer filed a criminal petition demanding strict action against Pate and urged to hand over the investigation to another investigation agency.
