Aurangabad, April 4:

In the first wave of coronavirus, health workers were first given 14 days duty and then five days quarantine. Currently, these employees are going home after service. Therefore, concerns are being raised regarding the health of their families. Meanwhile, the health administration has issued no precautionary orders for the health and security of the employees and their families.

The number of corona victims in the district is setting new highs every day. Health workers, doctors and nurses are providing services in such a situation when the health system is also starting to become inadequate. However, as health workers head home after duty, putting their families at risk. While there is a demand for isolation facilities for the employees, no measures are being taken by the health administration in this regard. In addition, health organizations are demanding that a minimum number of beds be reserved for health workers due to the increasing incidence of getting infected.

Covid care centres in the district - 38

Patients admitted in these centres - 3,145

Health workers in these centres - 550

Worried about the children

I have been on duty since last year. I am taking bath and disinfecting my clothes after getting home from duty. I have an elderly mother, younger brother, wife, five-year-old son. Still, my mother and other family members got infected by me. Treatment is underway, but there is concern regarding my family members, said, Amol Jagtap, health worker, GMCH.

Many health workers get infected while treating patients. They face similar problems while finding a bed. As a result, they have to be treated in private hospitals. Therefore, beds should be reserved for health workers. Leave should also be given for quarantine. Inadequate manpower is putting a burden on health workers. Manpower should be increased, said Bhavsingh Bainade, district president, ZP healthcare employees association.

Take care of yourself and your family

Health workers should get vaccinated. All have been providing health services for 13 to 14 months. So now there is no need to tell any employee how to take care of himself. They must regularly practise physical hygiene, bathing after work. I also worked with co-morbidities despite being 62 years old. But by taking care, I was able to keep covid away, said Dr Sundar Kulkarni, district surgeon, Aurangabad.

Pressure on family

The family members of the health workers are worried about the second wave of corona. My husband is a doctor and treats corona patients. Earlier, there was an isolation facility, but now workers go home after duty. I am worried about my three-year-old son and 15-month-old daughter, said Ashwini Jadhav, wife of a doctor.
