Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds lash city for 1 hour

Aurangabad, May 31:

Pre-monsoon heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds lashed the different parts of the city on Monday for one hour. Small ponds turned up on many roads of the city in a short time.

The sky was cloudy since morning. Dark clouds gathered in the sky after 5 pm. People were hoping for heavy rains. It started raining at 6 pm.

The pace of rain was low in the beginning and increased much within the next few months. There was lightning and thunderstorm for some time. After one hour, it turned into a drizzle. Riders and pedestrians were seen running for shelter here and there during rains.

Rainwater was gathered on different roads, including Jalna Road causing traffic congestion. Potholes that came up on several roads were filled with rainwater.

There was a power failure in some parts of the city, including Chikalthana, Town Hall, Bhadkal Gate, after it started raining while the electricity supply was uninterrupted in other areas.

The fire brigade department that receives waterlogging calls in low lying areas had not received any call until 8.30 pm today.

Drivers and riders were unable to see even to some distance on Jalna Road because of the heavy pace of the rains. The speed of wind which was 11.3 km per hour, affected vehicular traffic on Jalna Road.

Shrinivas Aundhkar from MGM Weather Centre said that this was pre-monsoon rain.

“Their Centre recorded 12.33 mm rainfall between 6 pm and 8.50 pm. The speed of the wind was 11.3 km per hour. There is a possibility of raining in the afternoon for the next two to three hours,” he added.
