Intern doctors cease Covid-19 medical service

Aurangabad, Jan 20:

Around, 200 intern doctors in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) are providing medical services for the treatment of the Covid-19 patients. However, they have ceased Covid-19 medical service and threatened to stop the non-Covid service if the decision regarding their Covid allowances is not taken in the next ten days.

The doctors at Mumbai and Pune are provided additional Covid allowances even today. However, this allowance was ignored at other places in the state since May, 2020. The interns are providing services at Covid ICU, ward and OPD. These doctors had given memorandums to the guardian minister regarding the additional allowances on several occasions, but no action was taken until now. Hence, the intern doctors under the Association of State Medical Interns (ASMI) organization initiated an agitation and stopped the Covid services.

The ASMI divisional coordinator, Dr Adesh Thombre said that we will stop even the non-Covid services if the government will not decide about their demand.
