MJP completes survey to lay water pipelines, other works through contractor

Aurangabad, March 11:

The private contractor of the new water supply scheme valuing Rs 1680 crore had started a survey to construct elevated storage reservoirs (ESRs), lay main pipelines of length 40 km from Jayakwadi Dam to Nakshatrawadi and lay water pipelines of length 700 km (out of 1900) to improve water distribution in the city. Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) is the nodal agency of the project.

Earlier, the contractor GBPR has delayed in taking the work order as his demand was to increase the cost of the ambitious project. He started the works when the administration threatened him of cancelling the tender.

The construction of ESRs had started one month ago, claimed the MJP's superintending engineer Ajay Singh. The survey to lay main pipelines, as well as the distribution pipelines in the city, is in the last leg, he said.

The construction of the Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) at Nakshatrawadi is underway. Besides, the contractor had also purchased distribution pipelines (of length 60 km) to be laid simultaneously along with the construction of roads in the city, said Singh.
