Monitor lizard found in Shendra MIDC

Aurangabad, July 19:

A 3.5 feet long monitor lizard (Ghorpad) was found in Shendra MIDC recently. Anant Mamankar, who saw this reptile first time, informed the Forest Department.

Nitesh Jadhav and Sharad Dabhade also reached the spot and caught it. There were several injury marks on the reptile’s body.

Monitor lizard was handed over to wildlife activist Dr Kishor Pathak for its treatment.

Dr Kishor Pathak said that some people eat the meat of ‘Ghorpad’ as there are many misconceptions about it. “Because of this, their population is declining,” he added.
