Mother disappears after leaving baby at GMCH

A mother left a three-month-old baby with a man saying that she would return in few minutes after taking X-ray, but disappeared from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Sunday morning. As the woman did not return after a long period, the man handed over the baby to a lady guard. The baby was later admitted to ward no. 25.

A woman handed over the three-month-old baby boy to a relative of a patient near operation theatre - 1 at the Surgical building at GMCH on Sunday at around 10.30 am. The man thought that the woman will return soon as the X-ray department adjoining to the OT. However, she did not return for a long time. Hence, he informed about it to the security guards. The resident medical officer was also informed. The guards search for the woman all over the premises but could not find her. Two lady guards looked after the baby. Meanwhile, the child welfare committee was informed about the incident, informed medical superintendent Dr Suresh Harbade.

Acting head of the paediatric department, Dr Amol Suryawanshi said, the baby was admitted in ward no. 25 while an attendant was appointed to look her him.
