Need to pay attention towards quality in education: Dr Nimse

Aurangabad, April 18 :

“Uneducated people are unemployed in many countries of the world. On the contrary, educated youths do not get a job in our country while less-educated persons have more opportunities. The reason is that there is stress on an increasing number of educated youths them providing them qualitative education,” said Dr Sarjerao Nimse, noted educationist and former vice-chancellor.

He was speaking on ‘Education and Society in an online lecture series organised by Loksamvad Foundation on Sunday.

Mathematics expert from Jalna Dr Sandeep Patil presided over the programme.

Dr Sarjerao Nimse said that there were just 20 universities in the country in 1947, today, their strength has gone up to 900.

“There were 250 colleges at the time of Independence while today their number has reached up to 45,000. Currently, three crore youths are taking higher education across the country against three lakh in 1947.

There is 100 times increased. We have increased ratio in higher education but still lacks quality,” he said.

He said that the research being done in universities should be applicable to society.

Former VC Dr B A Chopde, its founder president Dr Rajesh Karpe, Dr Smita Awchar, Dr Ram Chavan and others present.
