Aurangabad, Oct 21:

Posing themselves as policemen, perpetrators whisked away a golden ring of an older man, between Garkheda to Gajanan Maharaj temple road, today at 12.15 pm. The senior citizen had stepped out of the home to buy fruits for grandchildren.

The victim Sambhaji Punjaji Ghorpade (70, a resident of Vijaynagar) was heading on his bicycle towards the temple where the fruit vendors are there in large numbers. The accused riding motorcycle stopped him, in front of a hospital, on the road ahead of temple square. They claimed of being policemen and alerted him saying not to move around by wearing gold ornaments on the body. They mentioned that the thieves are active in the area. Ghorpade informed them that he is just having a finger-ring. They told him to wrap it in a handkerchief and keep in the pocket. Ghorpade acted as per their instruction. Under the pretext of extending help in tieing the handkerchief, they tactfully stole away the ring and later on left the spot. Ghorpade was shocked to see that there was no ring in the handkerchief when he untied it after some time. He then rushed towards Pundaliknagar police station and then went to Jawaharnagar police station to register the complaint.

Meanwhile, the police inspector Santosh Patil said that the station had registered an offence against the fake police.
