Only twenty-two registered marriages increased this year

Aurangabad, April 27:

In order to prevent corona infection, the administration has appealed to stop marriages in marriage halls and lawns and opt for registered marriages. However, it did not get much response. Emphasis has been placed on traditional marriages. Compared to 2019-20, the number of registered marriages that happened in 2020-21 has increased by only 22.

With the surge in coronavirus in March last year, the administration decided to bring restrictions on marriages. Traditional wedding ceremonies were banned. Instead, the government insisted on a registered marriage in the presence of a small number of people, but this has not been taken into account by the citizens. From March 2019 to April 2020, 448 registered marriages took place in the district. The corona outbreak then began. Under the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act, the district administration has enacted a law prohibiting the gathering of people and an order has been issued to prefer registered marriages. Even so, citizens did not take the appeal seriously as between March 2020 and April 2021, only 470 registered marriages took place. Compared to 2019-20, only 22 marriages have increased. However, the number of marriages taking place through the traditional method is in the thousands. Action was also taken against many as people defied orders. But this time the awareness has increased. Corona infection is also on the rise, hence the tendency of citizens towards registered marriages will increase. Citizens should cooperate with the government in view of the outbreak of corona, said Soham Wayal inspector general of stamp registration.
