Aurangabad, June 29:

The relatives of a woman who died of Covid complained to Pundliknagar Police Station and district administration about missing ornaments from their patient’s body.

The patient’s children made rounds to the hospital, where she was admitted for the treatment, for the return of the ornaments.

It may be noted that Malanbai Bhivsan Bhalerao was suffering from a breathing problem.

So, she was admitted to Gajanan Hospital and Critical Care Centre on April 7, 2021. She was found positive and was undergoing treatment there. She was wearing gold ornaments like mangalsutra, bangles, all worth Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000.

Relatives were not allowed to enter the ward of patients. Meanwhile, Malanbai died on the evening of April 12. Her relatives were not allowed to see her body in the hospital.

Her body was handed over to Aurangabad Municipal Corporation. The AMC employees performed last rites on her at the crematorium. After the two days of the last rites, the family members realised that gold ornaments were not removed from her person.

When her sons- Bhausaheb and Deepak Bhalerao, enquired with Gajanan Hospital about the ornaments, they received evasive replies from the staff. Bhausaheb and Deepak Bhalerao requested the staff to check Close Circuit TV Camera footages.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to Pundliknagar Police Station, but nothing was done.

They also submitted a memorandum to the district collector requesting him for the return of ornaments.

Bhausaheb Bhalerao said that there ornaments worth Rs 80,000 on her mother’s body.

“Those ornaments were not returned to us. We requested the hospital staff to show us CCTV footage, but they gave us evasive replies. We have submitted a memorandum to Pundliknagar Police Station and District College. No, no notice was taken yet.

Dr Gitesh Dalvi from Gajanan Hospital said they treat admitted patients and did not know anything about ornaments on patient’s body.
