Over 100 left main angioplasty at Bajaj, bypass surgery bypassed

Aurangabad, March 16: Kamalnayan Bajaj hospital cardiologists under the leadership of Dr Ajit Bhagwat, recently completed over 100 cases of left main angioplasty.

Traditionally a blockage in the main artery on the left side of the heart is removed by cardiac bypass surgery. The technological advances in the last decade have rendered these cases amenable to a far less invasive technique of angioplasty and stenting. Hospital CEO Natasha Verma said that angioplasty avoids opening up of chest, anaesthesia, blood transfusions, ventilator, prolonged ICU and hospital stay, delayed chest wound healing and infections that are associated with bypass surgery. It is now possible in about 50% cases of blockage in the left main artery. Advanced technologies like Rotablation (drilling the calcium), Intravascular ultrasound and FFR make it successful. The team included cardiologists Drs Bhagwat, Sachin Mukhedkar, Ranjit Palkar and paramedical staff.

Bajaj hospital's chairman C P Tripathi, CEO Verma and medical director Dr Milind Vaishnav congratulated the team.
