Overuse of immune-boosting drugs can be harmful

Consumption of immunity booster drugs has increased due to the belief that those who have a healthy immune system can stop Covid-19. Such drugs are also being advertised on various mediums. People have started consuming such medicines without consulting a doctor. However, the medical experts have warned of not using self-medication, and to follow social distance, wear mask and sanitization to protect from corona.

In the last five-six months, the market for immunity boosters has increased. The purchase of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc and Multivitamin has also increased. However, these medicines are being consumed without consulting any health expert. However, doctors have warned against self-medication and not fall prey to misleading advertisements. Medical expert Dr Mangala Borkar said, "Social distance, masks and using sanitizers are the most effective ways to prevent corona. In those who have had corona, the antibodies produced do not last long. They can be re-infected. One must not rely 100 per cent on the drugs that boost the immune system to keep you safe from the virus."

Good diet and exercise helps

"People are terrified by coronavirus. So everyone is trying to boost their immune system. Immunity boosters cannot keep you safe from the deadly virus. Many people take different herbs and medicines. Such people remain oblivious of the dangers and fall victim to corona, said Dr Anand Deshmukh. Corona has also killed people with strong immune systems. It is risky to take any vitamin or other supplement for a long time without a recommendation from a doctor. It is important to take a good diet and exercise to boost the immune system. However, excess consumption of vitamins can adversely affect bones, skin and other organs.
