Penalty of Rs 51 lakh for non-compliance of e-way bills

Aurangabad, Feb 6:

A team of state goods and services tax (SGST) department has recovered a fine of Rs 51 lakh from traders evading taxes through the e-way bills. The action has been taken under Aurangabad division said SGST officials. The SGST Aurangabad division has started a 24-hour e-way bill checking campaign from January 29. Traders need an e-way bill when transporting goods. If the goods are worth more than Rs 50,000 and if the goods are to be transported interstate, the e-way bill is mandatory from April 1, 2018.

However, the SGST officials noticed that many traders were not carrying e-way bills for the transport of goods. Accordingly, a drive was launched against such tax-evading traders. To date, more than 14,000 vehicles have been inspected. Out of this, a fine of Rs 51 lakh was recovered from 52 vehicles without an e-way bill. Under the guidance of Anand Patil, joint commissioner, deputy commissioner Ravindra Jogdand, assistant Makrand Kankal, Madhav Kumbharwad, Dhananjay Deshmukh, Tushar Gawde and officials and employees from Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed are working hard to make this campaign a success.
