Aurangabad, May 3:

A prisoner undergoing imprisonment at Harsul central prison, fled from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) by jerking the hand of an assistant sub inspector (ASI) on Monday afternoon.

The fled prisoner has been identified as Shaikh Shakeel Shaikh Aaref (25, Kasambari Dargah area, Padegaon).

Shaikh Shakeel in 2017, with his accomplices conducted robberies in Cantonment and Panchwati Chowk area. Two cases were registered against him at the Cantonment police station. When the police went to Padegaon to arrest him, he attacked the police. A separate case was registered against him in this connection. He was in the Harsul prison since then.

Recently he complained of health complications, following which he was taken to GMCH on Monday.

Accordingly, assistant sub inspector (ASI) A S Pawar and lady constable Ujjawala Rathod took him to the GMCH. On reaching the hospital, Rathod went in the ward to see the doctor and Pawar was holding Shakeel. Suddenly, Shakeel gave jerk to Pawar’s hand and fled away from the hospital. Pawar and Rathod searched him in the premises but could not find him.

An offence against the suspect has been registered with Begumpura police station, while a manhunt has been lodged for nabbing him.
