Rains lash half the city for the second day in a row

Aurangabad, Oct 22: For the second day in a row, half of the city was lashed by torrential rains on Thursday afternoon. The velocity of rain was 177.7 mph per hour, even higher than Wednesday. In all, 30.2 mm rain fell in 16 minutes. As a result, roads in Cidco, Hudco, Chikalthana, Garkheda and other low lying areas were submerged.

It started raining at around 2 pm. In just 5 minutes, the rain turned to heavy showers with thunder and lightning. It rained faster than a cloudburst from 2.08 pm to 2.15 pm. Roads and internal streets in Seven Hill area, Gulmohar Colony, Thakrenagar, Ambikanagar, Ulkanagari, Chetak Ghoda Chowk and Garkheda were flooded. The wind was blowing at 14 km per hour. As a result, a tree was uprooted in the N-3 area. Houses were flooded due to rainwater in Swapnanagari, Garkheda. While it was raining heavily in Cidco and Chikalthana, light showers fell in Kranti Chowk, Railway Station, Paithan Gate, Bhavsinghpura, Nandanvan Colony and Begumpura.

Traffic jam at Akashwani

There were long queues of vehicles from All India Radio to the Seven Hill flyover. The traffic jam continued further till Cidco bus stand. The motorists had to struggle while making their way through the traffic jam.

36 mm rain in Chikalthana

The MGM observatory recorded 30.2 mm rainfall in 16 minutes, said director of APJ Abdul Kalam Astrospace, Science Centre Shrinivas Aundhkar. The Chikalthana observatory recorded 36 mm of rain in half an hour. 37.4 mm rainfall was recorded till 5.30 pm.
