Revenue collection of RTO drops by 65 per cent

Aurangabad, Dec 22:

Covid-19 has severely impacted the revenue collection of the Regional Transport Office (RTO). While the target is Rs 276 crore, only Rs 99 crore has been collected in the last nine months. Now the officials are facing the challenge of collecting revenue of Rs 177 crore in the next three months.

All transactions had come to a standstill due to the Covid-19 lockdown. This also affected the RTO office. The RTO office is known as the highest revenue earning office for the government. However, Covid-19 affected the revenue collection this year. The work from the issuance of a license to the registration of vehicles was stalled for several months. Dussehra-Diwali has the highest sales of vehicles. This year, the proportion remained low. Hence, the revenue of Rs 99 crore has been deposited in the treasury of RTO office so far in 9 months. By the end of December every year, 90 per cent of the annual target had been achieved. So far this year, only 35 per cent of the target has been achieved. RTO Sanjay Metrewar said efforts are being made to meet the financial year target given to the RTO office.
