Ruptured kidney repaired by minimal invasive surgery; procedure at Kamalnayan Bajaj hospital on 14-yr-old boy who sustained blow on abdomen during fight in school

Aurangabad, March 4: A kidney of a 14 years old boy from Parbhani district, ruptured during a school fight, was repaired by the experts at Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital (KBH), recently.

The boy came to the hospital with history of a blow to his abdomen by his friend, leading to blunt abdominal trauma. He complained of severe abdominal pain, high grade fever and vomiting.

On investigations at KBH, it was found that he has a congenitally obstructed and dilated kidney, which made the kidney prone for rupture by this blunt trauma. Such isolated rupture of kidney is very rare. Urologist at KBH Dr Aditya Yelikar, after counselling his parents, planned a surgery to repair the kidney by minimal invasive surgery. Laparoscopic repair of the ruptured kidney was done along with repair of the congenital block. The boy was discharged home walking with good kidney function. Minimal invasive surgery has become a boon for such complex cases leading to minimal hospital stay, minimal pain, minimal scar, added Dr Yelikar. The boy was fortunate enough in this case to have a good functioning kidney post- operation. Anaesthetist Dr Sanjeev Purohit, paediatrician Dr Rahul Gosavi with nursing staff Maya Sable and Sanjay Jadhav assisted Dr Yelikar.
