State excise seizes illicit country liquor stock

Aurangabad, Jan 18:

The state excise officers arrested a man with the stock of illicit country liquor being taken for the celebration of the grampanchayat elections results declared on Monday. The officers laid a trap and seized 20 boxes containing 960 bottles of country liquor amounting Rs 50,000 and a car. The arrested person has been identified as Pundlik Ramaji Raht (Hivra, Phulambri).

According to the details, the results of the grampanchayat elections were declared on Monday and for maintaining law and order in the city and the district, the country liquor shops, beer shopee and bars were ordered to be kept close.

Meanwhile, the state excise department PI Arun Chavan received the information that a person is transporting illicit liquor to sell on higher price after the declaration of the election results. Hence, he, PI Mohan Matkar, Ashish Mahindrakar, Assistant PI Anant Sshendarkar, Ganesh Nagve, Praveen Puri, Jawan Thansingh Jarwal, Yogesh Kalyankar, Ganpat Shinde, Subhash Gunjal and driver Pathan laid a trap between Harsul and Jatwada road today morning. The team stopped the suspected car and the accused on the sight of the police tried to flee away from the scene leaving the car but the police nabbed him. During the search of the car, 20 boxes of illicit liquor amounting around Rs 49,920 and a car amounting Rs 2 lakh were seized. It was found that the liquor was filled in the used bottles from the scrap. The accused was produced before the court today and was remanded in the police custody for two days.
