State sanctions Rs 50L to two deceased Anganwadi sevikas; four proposals still under process!

Aurangabad, June 1:

The Anganwadi sevikas are playing a vital role in the fight against Covid-19 in the district. However, six Anganwadi sevikas had died while performing their duties in rural parts of the district. However, the state government had approved an ex gratia (insurance cover) of Rs 50 lakh to the heirs of only two sevikas, so far.

The government had sanctioned the proposals of the deceased Manda Pundalik Ramteke (of Savkhedganga Anganwadi in Vaijapur tehsil) and Kalpana Subhash Mande (of Lohgaon Anganwadi in Paithan tehsil).

There is an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh to family members of each frontline worker, who dies while performing his/her duty during the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Till today, six Anganwadi sevikas had died of Coronavirus infection, while performing their duties, in the district.

According to official sources, the Zilla Parishad's District Women and Child Welfare Department had sent complete proposals of only three sevikas to its commissioner office. Of which, the proposals of the above two sevikas were sanctioned, while the proposal of deceased sevika Hirabai Shivpuri Puri (of Bhadji Anganwadi in Khuldabad tehsil) is said to be under consideration.

Besides, the proposal of deceased sevika Asha Shankar Dhanedhar (of Golegaon Anganwadi in Gangapur tehsil) has been sent recently to the district level office and the process to submit the same to the commissionerate is underway.

" There are some shortcomings in the remaining proposals of two sevikas, as a result, the district office had not received them," said the deputy chief executive officer (DyCEO) Prasad Mirkale.
