Teachers upset over no getting insurance cover on COVID duty

Aurangabad, April 28:

There is no insurance cover for thousands of teachers working on COVID duty across the State.

Around 6,011 teachers are on pandemic duties across the State.

They are upset over not giving them insurance cover. A total of 22 teachers died of the virus during the last one year.

No one was given insurance cover.

All teachers union demanded that the insurance cover which ended on September 30 should be extended up.

A total of 202 teams were formed for city and tehsil jurisdictions while 2,666 squads were set up for the rural areas.

The teaches were given additional responsibilities like working Village Vigilance Committee, vaccination, door-to-door survey and checking vehicles, a survey of ration shop, inquiry officer at COVID Care Centre.

They do not have insurance cover nor get sanitiser, mask, thermal gun and oxymeter supply on time.

The Education Department confirmed the death of eight teachers from COVID in the first wave.

The bloc education officer received information of another eight teaches death after February in the second wave of COVID.

Two of them died on duty during the awareness drive. Education officer Surajprasad Jaiswal said that the names of the two teachers would be sent to Government to provide their family insurance benefits.

He said that the decision about such teachers would be taken on the Government level.

Prakash Dane, the district president of Shikshak Bharti said that teachers are being on duty at the vaccination centre since March 2021.

He said that teachers are being victims of pandemic as many of them do not have protective resources, unfortunately, some of them died, so, they should get insurance cover on the line of other employees.

Rajesh Hiwale, State publicity chief of Prathmik Shikshak Sangh said that the Government should give insurance cover to each teacher like other Government department employees.

Vijay Salakar, district president of Shikshak Samiti said that teaches are serving the nation like other personnel.

“A total of 15 teachers died of the pandemic so far in the district.

We have demanded to give extension to insurance cover to teachers,” he added.
