Vegetables abound in the market, prices fall

Aurangabad, Jan 3:

Due to the winter season, a large influx of vegetables is seen at the Jadhavwadi Agriculture Market produce Committee (APMC) vegetable market. Farmers are throwing the unsold vegetables in the garbage without carrying them back.

Jadhavwadi APMC is currently witnessing a huge influx of vegetables. This has dropped the price significantly. Due to low price, many farmers were seen selling vegetables in the city. Three to four bunch of Fenugreek, spinach and coriander were being sold for Rs 10. One and a half kg of potatoes were being sold for Rs 20 in Shahaganj vegetable market. Tomatoes remained at a low price of Rs 5 to 8 per kg. Hundreds of kilos of tomatoes are being thrown in the garbage. Ridge gourd is being sold at Rs 20 and Okra at Rs 30 per kg. More than 250 tonnes of vegetables are being sold in APMC daily market. Out of this, more than 10 to 20 tons of vegetables are left unsold.

The new sorghum will go on sale next month. As a result, the price of sorghum has come down to Rs 22-35 per kg. However, the price of wheat has gone up by Rs 60-70 per quintal and is being sold at Rs 20-32 per kg. The new wheat will go on sale at the end of February.
