Veil Gang Active in City: Ornaments valuing Rs 1L stolen in daylight

Aurangabad, March 16:

Three women, all in the veil, jostled another woman (also in veil) and stole away her purse containing gold ornaments and cash, all valuing more than Rs 1 lakh, near Genda Bhavan on Sarafa Road, on Monday at around 4 pm.

It so happened that a resident of Ashoknagar in Shah Bazaar, Shaikh Shahzad's wife Firdous Begum, along with her aunty, left home to repair her gold ornaments, including mangalsutra made of black beads (Kali Poth). The small purse containing all her gold ornaments and other valuables (weighing around two tolas) and cash Rs 5,000 in a small purse which was in a plastic bag. While they were crossing Genda Bhavan (on Sarafa Road), three veiled women were coming from the opposite direction. One of them jostled her intentionally, while another lady from the group used a blade to cut the plastic bag from the bottom and fled away with the purse in it.

Later on, the victim was surprised to see her purse missing from the plastic bag. The duo searched for the purse on the route but was in vain. Later on, they contacted the City Chowk police station and apprised the cops about the theft. The assistant inspector Khatane immediately visited the spot, and while going through the CCTV footages, three veiled women were spotted moving suspiciously. The police have registered the case of theft.

Womens' gang active

The incident indicates that the gang of veiled women is active in the periphery. A few days ago, two women had lost their ornaments when they were going to visit a jewellery artisan near Genda Bhavan (on Sarafa Road). Besides, two women had lost their ornaments and cash kept in the purses in the City Chowk area's vicinity. Besides, one veiled woman had stolen an ornament from a jewellery shop under the pretext of buying it. Meanwhile, not a single case has been solved so far. The investigation is on by police.
