Younus Colony residents demand immediate shifting of garbage bin close to electric DP

Aurangabad, April 21:

Angry residents of Younus Colony (en route to Aurangabad Times Colony) has demanded immediate shifting of the garbage bin, situated close to the electricity DPs, outside the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) school number 3. The residents grieved the dry waste is thrown away in the bin by the people from surrounding localities outside and it catches fire when there are sparkings in DPs due to fluctuation in power supply. As a result, the power supply of the Colony gets disrupted for an indefinite period and this common scenario has become intolerable for the residents in the area for the past many months. They claimed during summer such incidents become frequent, hence prompt action from Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is need of the hour.

The retired faculty from S.B. College, Haroon Patel said, " We have made several requests to the public representatives and civic officers to shift the garbage bin as it is very close to the electric DPs. Earlier, there was one DP, but one new DP has added a few years ago. People from surrounding localities threw garbage in the bin, by coming in auto, mopeds or while going for the morning walk. The dry waste, if not? lifted regularly, poses danger. It so happens that if there is power fluctuation, the sparks emerge in any electric components of the DPs or Distribution Box (DB). The aggressive sparks then fell on the dry waste and catch fire. Every month there is a fire incident. Sometimes, we are pushed into confusion about whether to call the fire brigade or not?

The residents staying in our locality then rush and try to douse the fire in whatever possible way. Acting upon the information, the MSEDCL line staff reaches the spot without fail and struggles to douse the fire. In the whole process, the power supply is disrupted for an indefinite period. We had forwarded the video clip of the live-fire to MSEDCL and AMC officials as an alert. There is no issue with MSEDCL personnel, but the AMC should act promptly. We are now fed up with fire incidents due to sparkings, therefore, the garbage bin should be shifted to a safer place on priority, this summer."

" Frequent disruption in the power supply is affecting hundreds of professionals and students (school and college), who are working from home and attending online classes, respectively. The sudden disruption in power supply disturbs the professionals and students. If they are working on a laptop then they had to check the charging of the battery. If they are working on a desktop then the professionals do not a chance to save the matter of work they had done. The students are disappointed by the disturbance. When the power is restored, the professionals had to do the work again as the old matter gets disappeared. On disconnection with Wi-Fi, the professionals and students had to switch on to the old and traditional method of using the internet through mobile phones. In our locality, there is a large number of professionals, who are working from home for big and reputed companies in Pune, Mumbai, Gujarat, Aurangabad etc. Besides, school students there are a large number of college students, who are preparing for their HSC board exams as well as for NEET/JEE entrance tests. Hence the main cause for all the issue is the garbage bin. Hence the AMC should immediately shift it and provide relief to the residents of our colony," stressed a businessman Mirza Samsam Baig, whose son is working from home for a Pune-based company and daughter is preparing for the NEET.

I will inspect the spot: MSEDCL engineer

When contacted the MSEDCL assistant engineer (Roshan Gate sub-division), Wasim Patel said, " I am having an additional charge as my colleague, under whose jurisdiction the Younus Colony comes, is on sick leave. However, I will visit the area for inspection and correspond with the AMC's solid waste management cell to shift the garbage bin. If frequent fire incidents are taking place then it is a matter of grave concern as it is causes loss of MSEDCL's property, interrupts power supply and pushes the consumers."
