Youth held for molesting woman doctor at GMCH

Aurangabad, Oct 12:

Crime branch of the city police on Monday arrested a youth on the suspicion of molesting a woman resident doctor when she was on her way to her duty in the super specialty block in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at midnight on October 1.

The suspect has been identified as Sagar Himmatrao Dabhade (25, Gulabwadi, Town Hall). According to the police, one squad of the crime branch headed by PSI Amol Deshmukh was literally camping on the GMCH campus waiting for the suspect to come in the hospital. Police already had seen his face as he was captured in a CCTV camera installed on the campus. Police pounced on him the next moment he appeared in the GMCH campus this afternoon. Police said that Sagar is a casual labourer, works at construction sites during day and is addicted to narco stuffs. He lives with his brother in Gulabwadi and spends most of his time in useless activities on the hospital campus during nights. He confessed to have committed the crime during the interrogation. A hunt for his accomplice has been launched.

About the incident

A woman doctor faced the terrifying incident after she was dragged into a roadside shrubs at knifepoint by two unidentified men when she was proceeding to the super specialty block from her hostel on foot at midnight. She raised alarm and it forced criminals to make their escape. The incident created ripples in the doctors and paramedical staff, especially women, and raised a question mark over their safety on the campus. A delegation of GMCH doctors and medical officers next day called on CP Nikhil Gupta, apprised him of the incident and requested him to enhance security in the hospital. In response to their appeal, he along with collector Sunil Chavan visited the GMCH campus and reviewed the security system.
