George Bailey is all set to be a part of the Australian selection panel alongside coach Justin Langer and selection chairman Trevor Hohns. Bailey who is known for his calm demeanour faced stiff competition from former cricketer Michael Klinger for the post. The former skipper however is expected to remain available to play for Tasmania and in Big Bash League. According to sources, CA as keen to appoint someone who had had the experience of playing the limited-overs format as a player. 

“The panel and all three will be responsible for all Australian men’s teams,” CA national teams boss Ben Oliver said on Monday before reports of Bailey’s appointment emerged. “What we’ve tried to achieve in this recruitment process is adding in some complementary skills to support Trevor and Justin and one of those is a consideration around short-format cricket,” he added.

Bailey who represented Australia in 90 ODIs and 5 Test matches has been part of the IPL and County Championships. The 37-year old last represented Australia in a one day international 3 years back against New Zealand. George joins the elite list of cricketers which includes the likes of Michael Clarke and Don Bradman who having held the post while leading the national team.
