English wicket-keeper Jos Buttler has been fined 15 per cent of his match fees and also received one demerit point for "use of an audible obscenity during an International Match", the International Cricket Council announced on Thursday (January 9). On the final day, Buttler used obscene language against Vernon Philander after collecting a throw. "Buttler admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing," the ICC release said.

The incident took place during South Africa`s inning when Buttler used an audible obscenity toward all-rounder Vernon Philander. Earlier, England defeated the Proteas by 189 runs in the second Test match to level the four Tests series 1-1. The video of Jos Buttler's verbal volley soon went viral on social media. Both teams will lock horns in the third Test on January 16 at Porth Elizabeth. The visitors have already been dealt  with a telling blow as James Anderson ruled out of the series with a rib injury.
