Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar has been accused of assualting his neighbour including his 7-year old son in Meerut. The complainant who has been identified as Deepak Sharma revealed that Praveen thrased him in a inebriated condition. Sharma further added that the cricketer then pushed his son who suffered injury in his back.

Speaking about the episode Sharna said, "The incident happened when a school bus was dropping my son near my residence, it momentarily blocked the traffic on the road on Saturday evening. Peeved by the delay, Kumar got down from his car, which was following the bus, and began assaulting me and my son." However, the cricketer denied the charges levelled against him.

Praveen said, I was an international cricketer, I have two kids a daughter and son, I have never killed an ant then why would I beat a boy? The boy and his father Deepak Sharma, who is my neighbour, thrashed me up when I alighted from my car last evening (Saturday) near my home.” Praveen Kumar who made his India debut in 2007 announced his retirement from the game last year in October. The medium pacer represented India in 68 ODIs and 6 Tests.
