Rohit Sharma (12) disappointed once again at the top of the order as India ended Day 4 of the Chennai Test at 39/1, still 381 runs behind in their chase of a massive target of 420 set by England. Ashwin took six wickets to end bundle out the visitors for 178 in the second innings but a big first innings lead of 246 helped England set a target in excess of 400. In a bid to survive a tricky 50-minute period towards the end of the day, both Rohit and Shubman Gill started off confidently until spinner Jack Leach outwitted Rohit with a perfect delivery. Gill (15*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (12*) were at the rescue after Rohit's departure, stitching an unbeaten 14-run partnership off 45 balls.

India, now have a huge task at their hands on Day 5 with the pitch expected to turn viciously. Ishant Sharma picked the wicket of Lawrence (18) which was the pacer's 300th Test wicket. Ishant trapped Lawrence (18) in front of the stumps. The batsman took the review but the third umpire stayed with the on-field umpire's decision. With this, Ishant became the third Indian pacer to do so after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan. Overall, Ishant is the sixth Indian bowler to take 300 Test wickets. Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan, l Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, and Ravichandran Ashwin are the other five bowlers who have taken 300 wickets in Test cricket.
