India opener KL Rahul was named the new skipper of Kings X1 Punjab by the franchise ahead of the 2020 edition of Indian Preimer League. Speaking about the appointment, Kings X1 skipper Ness Wadia said, "We are happy to appoint Rahul as our captain for the upcoming season, he has been through a lot in the last year or so and has now come back strongly, he has silenced his critics, you will see his ability not just as a batsman but also as a captain."

Kings X1 had brought Rahul for a whopping 11 crore ahead of the 2018 season and was in prime form last year in the IPL opening the batting alongside Chris Gayle. Rahul's appointment was on expected lines after R. Ashwin was traded to Delhi Capitals. In the auction the Punjab side added some valubale buys in their roster. Glen Maxwell, Deepak Hooda, Sheldon Cottrell, Chris Jordan, and Deepak Hooda are the new names in the squad. The team in total brought 9 players in the auction in their bid to win the first ever IPL title. The management last month appointed Anil Kumble as their new head coach and directir of cricket operations. Meanwhile, former India opener Wasim Jaffer was announced as the new batting coach.
