The Kolkata bowlers showed positive intent to restrict, Punjab Kings to just 123 after 20 overs. It was Chris Jordan who made a key contribution which allowed KL Rahul's men to save face in the batting department. KKR had their spinners firing for them after the pacers had managed a few early strikes. Shivam Mavi was the pick of the bowlers as the youngster set the tone early for the Eoin Morgan led side.  The spinners choked the middle overs which led to the downfall of the Punjab batsman. The target should be easy for KKR batsman and provides them with a great opportunity to get their campaign back on track.  There were no substantial partnerships and Punjab  had no answers to the line and length of the KKR bowlers.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bowl against Punjab Kings in their Indian Premier League encounter here at the Narendra Modi Stadium. At the time of toss, Morgan said: "We're going to bowl first. Excellent ground and good outfield, seems a good surface. We're going with the same team. We're looking to make a big step forward today. We believe in the guys within the squad and the playing XI. Moving forward, we'll see a lot more depth from our squad. I think there is the only way to go (from here). Getting on a losing streak can hurt a bit. We have the opportunity to turn it around and we know it can change quickly." KKR is at the bottom of the table with four defeats in their five games of the season while Punjab is at fifth spot with two wins in five matches. Punjab crushed Mumbai Indians in their last game as they registered a nine-wicket win while the Morgan-led side has lost the last four games.
