T20 specialist Michael Klinger has been named as the new head coach of Melbourne Renegades the franchise announced on Tuesday. The former Aussie batsman has replaced Andrew McDonald who was recently appointed the assistant coach of Australia men's team. Klinger who is one of the leading run scorers in the history of Big Bash League is tasked with leading the Melbourne Renegades  title defence. Klinger who has scored a record 1,947 runs in Big Bash League has won the Big Bash League twice with Perth Scorchers in 2004, and 2006. 

Speaking about his new role Klinger said, "To be given the opportunity to coach the current BBL champions is obviously very humbling and a fantastic honour, I've played with and against a number of players in the squad and I'm looking forward to working alongside such a talented playing group." 

Cricket Victoria general manager of cricket Shaun Graf said they had considered candidates from all around the world. "The qualities that made 'Maxy' such an accomplished player are the qualities that will set him up for an excellent coaching career. He's well-prepared, well-structured and an excellent man manager with fantastic leadership experience.Klinger who represented Australia in 3 T20 internationals was one of the 350 players under the hammer for the IPL Auction 2011, and was bought by Kochi Tuskers Kerala for US$ 75,000. The official announcement about the new coach was done on the official Twitter handle of the Melbourne Renegades.
