The 51-year old takes over from Rumesh Ratnayake who was the interim coach. Meanwhile, Chandika Hathurusingha, the man whom Arthur replaced is still contracted with SLC.

Mickey Arthur has been named the new head coach of Sri Lanka for a span of two years. The 51-year old takes over from Rumesh Ratnayake who was the interim coach. Mickey who has previously coached Australia and Pakistan has rich experience in coaching international sides. Arthur's tenure with Pakistan ended earlier this year after the team failed to qualify for the semifinals of the 2019 World Cup. During his tenure, however, Pakistan clinched the 2017 Champions Trophy and ascended to the top of the Test and T20 rankings.

Arthur will be joined by Grant Flower who has been appointed as Sri Lanka's batting coach and head coach of Sri Lanka  A side. The Sri Lankan Cricket board also confirmed the appointment of David Saker as the team's bowling coach. The board has decided to overhaul the entire coaching system in a bid to improve the team's flagging fortunes. Meanwhile, Chandika Hathurusingha, the man whom Arthur replaced is still contracted with SLC.
