Ranji giants Amol Muzumdar has been appointed coach of the Mumbai team for the 2021-22 domestic season. The Mumbai Cricket Association said that the selection was made on the recommendation of the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) consisting of Jatin Paranjpe (chairman), Nilesh Kulkarni and Vinod Kambli. The 46-year-old Muzumdar's candidature was finalised after the CIC interviewed nine candidates -- Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Wasim Jaffer, Sairaj Bahutule, Sulakshan Kulkarni, Pradeep Sunderram, Nandan Phadnis, Umesh Patwal and Vinod Raghvan besides Muzumdar.

A former Mumbai captain, Muzumdar played 171 first class games and scored over 11,000 runs in a career spanning close to 20 years between 1993 and 2013. He has been a coach of the Rajasthan Royals team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).The former right-handed batsman had also served as the South Africa cricket team's interim batting coach for the 2019-20 series against India.
