In the first of the double headers for the weekend, Virat Kohli's Royal Challenger's Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals by 8 wickets. Opting to bat first, the Royals lost the cream of their batting in the first 6 overs exposing the fragile middle order to some top class bowling.  It all began with  Jos Buttler's mini-onslaught who departed after scoring 22 off 12 balls. Kohli introduced Yuzvendra Chahal in the next over and he delivered immediately, removing dangerous Sanju Samson to further derail the Rajasthan innings. In the end, few lusty blows by Rahul Tewatia ensured Royals breach the 150 mark in their  20 overs.

For RCB, the chase was anchored by the young Devdutt Paddikal who has been a sensation in this tournament. The Karnataka batsman notched up his third half century of the tournament in Virat Kohli's company who managed to get some runs in the match with a classy 50 under his belt. Captain Kohli then headlined the chase with his first half century of the season. The Rajasthan bowlers were wayward with pacers leaking runs, with spinners failing to choke the RCB batsman. By virtue of this win, RCB went to the top spot spot for the first time in this year's Dream 11 Indian Premier League. RR made one change to their playing XI, with Ankit Rajpoot making way for Mahipal Lomror, while RCB decided to keep the same playing XI for first afternoon game of the season.
