India batsman Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a shoulder injury during the first ODI against England, is set to be sidelined for the remaining two ODIs and possibly a part of the IPL. Iyer fell on his left shoulder while fielding in the eighth over in the first ODI against England in Pune. He was taken for further scans, being ruled out of the game last night, with confirmation subsequently that Iyer had "subluxated" (partially dislocated) his left shoulder while trying to stop a boundary from Jonny Bairstow.

Further details on the injury are awaited. Apart from missing out on the India series, Iyer who is the captain of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, could miss out on a significant part of the upcoming season. In Iyer's absence, the candidates for captaincy in DC include the likes of Rishabh Pant, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith, Shikhar Dhawan and R Ashwin. DC will also be wary of the injury to Sam Billings in the same game, after he suffered a sprained collarbone with more details of the injury awaited. Ajinkya Rahane, who has ably led India to victory in the absence of Virat Kohli in Australia earlier this year, is a contender .Iyer took over the reins of Delhi side in the middle of 2018 and under him the team did well since - once making the play-offs and also the final last season.
