Dil Bechara Review: Sushant Singh Rajput's swansong flick is inevitably heart-breaking and beautiful

Dil Bechara, Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film,  premiered on Disney+Hotstar last night and the star's  last hurrah, has left his fans choked in a sea of emotions. Despite its stumbling narration the film largely succeeds thanks to a winning performance from Sushant. Set in Jamshedpur, the film conveys the message of living life to the fullest. It is the Kedarnath actor's effervescent attitude, his smile which will make you tear-eyed. Based on John Green’s book, ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, Dil Bechara is the story of a young couple. Kizie Basu (Sanjana Sanghi in her debut) is a college student, an introvert and loner, who also happens to have thyroid cancer, which forces her to rely on an oxygen tank to breathe. Her quiet life is disrupted one day when she meets Immanuel Rajkumar Junior or Manny (Rajput), who graduated from her college a few years ago and is a cancer survivor.

Manny's Bollywood style antics annoy her but her stance gradually softens and the two fall in love, only to be reminded of their respective illness. The movie also features Saif Ali Khan in a cameo role as Abhimanyu Veer. The news of Saif Ali Khan's cameo appearance in the film came long before the release of Dil Bechara. He plays a popular musician named Abhimanyu Veer in the movie. He is one of Kizzie's favourite musicians and she wants to desperately meet him because of an incomplete song on his album. However, post the release of his last album, he just disappears. Kizzie finally gets to meet him when Manny successfully tracks him down and arranges for a meeting. The Nawab has made an impactful  appearance in the film as a reality check for the characters and  manages to pluck the audiences' heartstrings. Given its poignant premise, ‘Dil Bechara’ makes for a very emotional watch especially in the form of Manny’s character who is a standout in the film. In the end, the flick will forever be remembered for Sushant Singh Rajput perhaps for what was lost and what could have been. Watch this movie as an ode to Sushant Singh Rajput's brilliant act which is inevitably heart-breaking and beautiful. Watch the Trailer of the film here....
