Filmmaker SP Jananathan found in unconscious state at home, rushed to ICU

National Award-winning director SP Jananathan was rushed to a private hospital after his assistants found him lying unconscious in his house on Thursday. The filmmaker’s brother Azhagan Thamilmani revealed that doctors have diagnosed blood clots in his brother’s brain. On Thursday, Jananathan was busy with the editing work of his upcoming Tamil film, Laabam. He left for his house during lunchtime but didn't return even after a few hours. When his assistants went to his house to check on him, the front door was wide open, and he was found lying unconscious on the floor.

As per a Hindustan Times report, he’s currently in the ICU ward, in serious condition on ventilator support. The family is waiting to hear from the senior neurologist in the hospital on the next course of treatment. Jananathan’s debut film Iyarkai won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil in 2003. He has since carved a niche for himself by making socially conscious films that reflect on the evils of an unequal and casteist society. His notable works include the 2006 film E and the 2009 film Peranmai. Laabam is his second film with Vijay Sethupathi after Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai in 2015. Billed as a geopolitical drama, the film stars Shruti Haasan, Sai Dhanshika, Kalaiyarasan, Ramesh Thilak, Prithivi Rajan, Danial Anne Pope, Nithish Veera and Jai Varman.
