Akshay Kumar's Laxmii has finally hit the web and with the movie already mired in a lot of controversies. The suspense over the original Laxmii has come to an end. Much to everyone’s surprise, Sharad Kelkar plays the role of Laxmii in the movie. Undoubtedly, Sharad’s appearance as a transgender has come as a surprise for everyone. For the unversed, Laxmii happens to be the official Bollywood remake of 2011 release Tamil film Kanchana. Apart from Akshay and Sharad, the movie also features Kiara Advani and Tusshar Kapoor in the lead. Laxmii arrived on OTT amid the coronavirus scare and the makers have decided to not release it in theaters amid the pandemic situation.

Laxmii is the Hindi remake of South film Kanchana, which follows the story of a man possessed by the ghost of a transgender. Raghava Lawrence, who had helmed and starred in the original, also helms the Bollywood remake. Talking about his role in the film, Akshay had earlier shared, “I’ve been in my career for 30 years. But the character of Laxmmi has been the most mentally intensive role I’ve ever played. But somehow I managed it. And I thank my director. He is behind everything about this character — how it moves, what it says and how it dances.” Actor Tusshar Kapoor, who is venturing into film production with Akshay Kumar-starrer Laxmii, says it was a natural progression rather than a calculated career move. He said, “It is not like I am getting into next stage (of my career) as a producer. It was a natural decision that came very spontaneously.”
