Illegal IPL Streaming App Case: Actor Tamannaah Bhatia Gets Summons From Maharashtra Cyber Cell

Bollywood actor Tamannaah Bhatia got summons by Maharashtra Cyber cell in connection with the illegal streaming of IPL 2023 on Fairplay App case. In this case Viacom company bared loss of Crores of Rupees. As per the sources actor is asked to appear before Maharashtra Cyber on 29th April.

Earlier, Actor Sanjay Dutt was also summoned in this connection on 23rd April. But he skipped that. He had, instead, sought a date and time for recording his statement and said that he was not in India on the date.

Why Tamannaah Bhatia received Summons?

Tamannaah and Sanjay are said to have promoted and supported FairPlay's subsidiary app of the Mahadev betting app. It is reported that over 20 influencers who also promoted the FairPlay app on various platforms may be called soon to give their statements. 



About Case 

As per the TOI , FIR was registered in in September 2023, after Viacom18 complained that they possess the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for streaming IPL matches. However, the betting app Fair Play platform was illegally streaming the matches on their platform. As a result, Viacom18 incurred a loss of over Rs 100 crore. Subsequently, after the FIR was filed, various celebrities such as Badshah, Sanjay Dutt, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Tamannaah were summoned for questioning. In December 2023, an employee of the betting app was apprehended.
