Rajiv Kappor's Chautha cancelled for safety reasons, amid pandemic, confirms family

Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor’s younger brother Rajiv Kapoor passed away on Tuesday, February 9. Rajiv Kapoor was 58 years old. He suffered a massive cardiac arrest, following which Randhir Kapoor rushed him to Inlaks Hospital, which was the closest medical facility near their residence in Chembur. The doctors declared him dead on arrival. Now the family has confirmed that there will be no Chautha organised for late actor-director. Taking to her social media handle, she shared a notice that read, “Due to the current pandemic circumstances, there will be no Chautha held for the Late Mr Rajiv Kapoor for safety reasons. ”The post went on to read, “The entire Raj Kapoor family is a part of your grief too.”

Family, friends, prominent Bollywood personalities and fans bid adieu to actor-director, as he was cremated on Tuesday evening in Chembur, at around 7 pm. Randhir Kapoor and nephew, actor Ranbir Kapoor led the funeral procession. Family and close friends from the film industry were also seen at Rajiv Kapoor's Chembur bungalow to pay their last respects. Rajiv Kapoor recently completed the shoot of his final film Toolsidas Junior starring Sanjay Dutt in the lead role. The film is produced by Ashutosh Gowariker. In a statement, the ace filmmaker remembered Rajiv and said, "I was a great fan of Rajiv Kapoor, from his Ram Teri Ganga Maili days. It was a superb debut performance. I carried that memory with me for many years and then we connected quite a few times since Lagaan. And when an opportunity arrived in the form of my production of Toolsidas Junior, (which is directed by Mridul), I cast him in it."
