Ram Gopal Verma's sexist comments on women buying liquor irks Sona Mohapatra

Singer Sona Mohapatra has slammed filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma for his out of taste comments on Twitter that women buying liquor should not complain about domestic violence. Ram Gopal Verma, on Monday, shared a photo of women lining up for alcohol in queues and wrote, "Look who’s in line at the wine shops ..So much for protecting women against drunk men." To his tweet, Sona replied saying, "Dear Mr RGV, time for u to get into the line of people who desperately need a real education.1 that lets u understand why this tweet of yours reeks of sexism & misplaced morality. Women have a right to buy & consume alcohol just like men. No one has the right to be drunk & violent."

After the government decided to open liquor shops across India several celebs opposed the idea on their micro-blogging site. Recently actor Karan Wahi urged govt please shut these liquor shops as it’s reallly dangerous for people and specially for the cops monitoring them. Comedian Kapil Sharma also  totally condoned the act and shared a picture of crowded line in front of a shop. In the past, Javed Akhtar and Malaika Arora have both advised against reopening liquor shops. The sales figures of liquors have touched sky high with Karnataka alone accounting 50 crores business. On the other hand, a retailer has been booked in Karnataka after he sold  liquor more than the permissable limit. The department rules mandate that retail liquor outlets cannot sell more than 2.6 litres of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) or 18 litres of beer to a customer per day.
