Actor Abbas who featured who appeared in many celebrated films in Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi films, is a bike mechanic today in New Zealand.  Abbas who was once rated as Tamil film's biggest star has been working at a petrol pump away from the limelight. The 45-year old says,  "If an actor takes a break from filming in India, he will see a lot of names to see what he is doing and where he is going. “But there is no one in New Zealand to look at it and everyone is busy with their affairs." The actor also worked at a construction site after his career in films took a hit. The  Kadhal Desam star also spoke about his past life when the crisis he was going through. He even had the thought of committing suicide.

Abbas said he went to Australia and did a certification course in public speaking to raise awareness about how to discourage suicidal children from doing so. The actor's  wife, Erum Ali is a well-known designer, especially popular for her bridal couture. It is said that the couple fell in love with New Zealand the moment they stepped out of Auckland airport. Following a spell of commercially disappointing Tamil films as the lead actor, Abbas worked on several prestigious films in the early 2000s as a second hero. With multi-starrers diminishing in Tamil cinema, Abbas appeared in some low-budget ventures such as Unarchigal (2005) and 47A Besant Nagar Varai (2006), before opting to pursue anti-hero roles.  The actor, earlier, asked people to stay safe at their homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  He also called the lockdown across the world, the biggest reality show ever, albeit without any drama. In a video that he uploaded recently on his social media page, Abbas said, “This is the biggest reality show ever played out where everyone is locked in their respective homes. Not the Bigg Boss, not Bigg Brother but the Big World Reality show. Stay home, no drama, just reality.”
